Class Reunions

Class of 2001
10th anniversary reunion

By: Fong Wei Kurk ’01

Driving into NUS at the Kent Ridge campus towards the former Law School building conjured up more nostalgia than I could have imagined. This, after all, was the same road that we had all traversed at one point or another during our four memorable years in Law School. It was with this feeling of wonder and excitement that many of us greeted each other at our 10th Anniversary Reunion on a sunny afternoon on 25th September 2011. Many of us stepped into the Kent Ridge Guild House with some trepidation: after all, we had not seen some of our classmates since Law School! How would they look like? Would I still be able to recognise them, or gosh, remember their names? Would we look too fat and haggard, weighed down by our early years of striving in our careers?

Thankfully, any sense of insecurity quickly vanished as familiar faces soon engaged in familiar banter. The warm feeling of camaraderie we enjoyed as Law School students, forged through years of inter-year games and group study sessions, quickly returned. The sumptuous buffet spread certainly helped calm any remaining nerves, sponsored most generously by Law School, for which we are indeed very grateful.

Almost one-third of our cohort showed up – Facebook certainly helped with the organising! As social networking evolves, it will hopefully not be too long before we are able to organise another mass gathering like this.

Editor’s Note:

In memory of Woo Pei Yee ’01, who sadly passed away in New York on 15 July 2011, the Class of 2001 raised funds for needy law school students, and the money was donated to the Financial Assistance to Law Students Fund. A memorial, organized by Pei Yee’s husband, was held in Law School on 19 November 2011 and was attended by her friends, family, former classmates and professors. Law School thanks the Class of 2001 for this wonderful initiative in memory of Pei Yee; and sends Pei Yee’s family our deepest condolences.
