On 22 October 2011, more than 80 Law School alumni gathered at the fashionable Cool Docks bar and restaurant enclave in Shanghai, joined by Dean Tan Cheng Han SC ’87, Associate Professor Burton Ong ’99, Associate Dean Goh Mia Yang ’92 and myself.
This is the Law School’s second alumni reunion in Shanghai, made more meaningful because this is also Cheng Han’s last overseas alumni gathering as Dean of the Law School. Alumni were touched that the Dean specifically came all the way to Shanghai to bid his farewell to them.
The weather held up for us, and we had a lovely evening of cocktails and catching up on the rooftop terrace of the much raved-about Stiller’s Restaurant. The food was good and the view of the Bund from the rooftop bar was spectacular; but it was good to see that our alumni were more absorbed with one another’s company!
Old ties were renewed and new ones formed, and we hope we successfully brought a piece of Law School to Shanghai. It was definitely a good sign that the last guests lingered long past the official end-time of the event!
