Associate Director of Alumni Relations and Development, Trina Gan ’04 shares Law School's plans for alumni in 2012

A very Happy 2012 to all

The Law School has started on a note of change this year. As you can see from our cover story, Professor Simon Chesterman took over the helm of the Law School from Professor Tan Cheng Han on 1 January 2012.  Supporting him are our new Vice-Deans: Associate Professor Joel Lee and Professor Ng-Loy Wee Loon ’87, both of whom were featured in LawLink last year for their achievements in teaching (for Joel’s interview, click here:<> ; for Wee Loon’s interview, click here <>.

I am pleased to report to you, that Simon is very much committed to developing our alumni relations. Under his leadership, we are continuing to encourage and support alumni in organising reunions – not only of graduating classes, but also those who are spread far and wide across the globe. Together with the NUS Office of Alumni Relations, we are working on the launch of the NUS Overseas Alumni Chapter Jakarta in February, to which all Law School alumni in Indonesia are of course warmly invited!

We will also be heading to Hong Kong in March for an alumni gathering headed by the Office of Alumni Relations. Simon and Prof Alan Tan '93, the new director of the NYU@NUS programme, will also be in New York in March to meet with our alumni.

To find out more about these events, as well as our “music and cocktails” evening with Lim Chin Yen' 72 on 11 April 2012, please click here <>.

These events are of course a great chance for our alumni to catch up with one another, as well as providing excellent cross-profession networking opportunities.

Another exciting new development is that NUS Law has started a Facebook page, spearheaded by Joel! Do click here <> and  ‘like’ our page, so you will be able receive all our updates on upcoming events!

I am looking forward to seeing you at our events over the next few months. I would also love to hear your ideas on other events that we could organise for you! Likewise, we welcome all feedback and comments from you on how we can continue to build our relationship with you - do drop us a note at, or email me directly at

May the Year of the Dragon bring you peace, happiness and prosperity!
