Class Reunions

One night in Hong Kong

Law School’s alumni in Hong Kong have a meet-up (and a knees-up) on 16 March 2012

Law School teamed up with the NUS Office of Alumni Relations (OAR) for the first time, to organise a meet-up for all NUS alumni in Hong Kong. The reunion took place at Azure, and was well attended. We are pleased to report that Law School alumni made up the largest contingent at the gathering! The reunion provided an excellent opportunity to catch up with one another, as well as providing networking opportunities with alumni from other faculties.

Law School was represented by Goh Mia Yang '92 and Trina Gan '04. We were most gratified to receive such enthusiastic response from Law School alumni, and are very proud to see how well our alumni in Hong Kong are doing.

In keeping with Law School’s unofficial tradition, the good food and alcohol made sure we were the very last group to leave!

Law School would like to thank OAR for putting together such a fantastic event. For more pictures of the reunion, please click here to vist their website

Taking a Bite Out of the Big Apple

LawSchool hosts its first alumni gathering in New York City. Professor Alan Tan '93 reports.

An increasing number of our alumni work and reside in the United States, and so Law School decided that it was about time for us to organise a meet-up with our alumni there.

When we broached the idea of a gathering in New York City, the response was gratifyingly enthusiastic. Held on a cool spring evening on Saturday, 24th March 2012, at the Café ASEAN in New York's West Village, the intimate gathering saw alumni and current students turn up to meet hosts Dean Simon Chesterman and Professor Alan Tan '93.

Among those who attended were LL.B alumnae Clara Feng '06 and Cheryl Kam '07, who had travelled all the way from Philadelphia! They are both enrolled in Masters programmes at the University of Pennsylvania. Clara, who is pursuing a Masters related to non-profit work, was especially thrilled to re-connect with Law School, as well as old friends.

The graduate students' alumni saw a strong turnout, including Anupama Ahluwalia LL.M '99 (in private practice), Lina Monten LL.M '08 (INTERPOL), Theresa Tan Hsien-Li Ph.D '09 (Research Fellow, NYU), Karin Loevy LL.M '09 (JSD Candidate, NYU), Michael Ceulen LL.M '11 (Simpson Thacher), Akiko Koide LL.M '11 (Mizuho Bank) and Susan Mangan LL.M '11 (Kearney Home Care Services).

Also present were six current students pursuing the NUS-NYU LL.B-LL.M Concurrent Degree Programme, Elsa Goh '12, Lau Kwan Ho '12, Timothy Woon '12, Anthony Wong '12, Amos Toh '12 and Zhuang Wenxiong '12.

Unfortunately, a number of LL.B alumni were out of town, including Graham Lim '97, Sameer Advani '99 and Dan Tan '99, and could not join us. They nevertheless participated in the planning for the event, by suggesting and checking out various venues for our gathering! Law School thanks them for their enthusiasm and support!

Launch of Indonesian Alumni Chapter

NUS recently launched its 16th Overseas Alumni Chapter in Jakarta, Indonesia on 23 February 2012.

The launch was attended by 150 alumni and friends; and Law School is happy that our alumni based in Indonesia could take time to attend the event. For more pictures of the event, please click here to visit their website.
