Law Alumni Awarded at NUS Alumni Awards

Two of NUS Law’s Alumni, Lucien Wong Yuen Kuai ’78, and Mohamed Faizal s/o Mohamed Abdul Kadir ’05 were honoured at the NUS Alumni Awards 2013, held on 8 November 2013.

Open to the NUS community, these awards are presented to alumni members who have made significant contributions to the community and their alma mater, in their chosen fields.

Mr Wong was among five conferred the Distinguished Alumni Service Award, a recognition for his continuous service to NUS.  Currently Chairman and Senior Partner, Allen & Gledhill LLP and Chairman of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, Mr Wong had served on the NUS Board of Trustees.

To help deserving law undergraduates in their finances, his firm had established the Allen & Gledhill Scholarship to award meritorious rising third year law students. Speaking to NUS News, Mr Wong shared how he enjoyed his studies, and has fond memories of participating in moot competitions. “The training of the mind is something you carry with you for the rest of your life,” he said.

The Outstanding Young Alumni Award went to Mr Mohamed Faizal, who has served as adjunct faculty since 2006. He was also previously on the Committee for University Education Pathways Beyond 2015, and on the Mendaki Club Executive Committee. Among other things, Mr Mohamed Faizal is currently on the New York International Law Review Editorial Board, and the MUIS Appeal Board.

On being awarded, Mr Mohamed Faizal said that NUS has taught him that being in an academic institution is more than just about gaining academic knowledge, but it is also about the friends you make, the bonds you build, the values inculcated and the thirst for knowledge.

Mr Mohamed Faizal has recently been appointed the General Counsel & Director (Legal), Singapore Medical Council. He was previously the Deputy Public Prosecutor and Deputy Senior State Counsel at the Attorney-General’s Chambers.

NUS Law congratulates them on their achievements and thanks them for their continuous contribution to the NUS community!
